Who should consider taking this course:
This course is equally suitable for pre-meds and those who are planning to go to graduate school to do research. You will come up with an experimental design to test a hypothesis, and this is a very difficult thing to do. But it will teach you how to think like a scientist.
Especially recommended: juniors who are planning to apply for NSF GRFP fellowships in their senior year. If you are such a junior, but you end up on the waitlist, please get in touch with me.
What should you know about this course:
This is a very difficult but rewarding course. It gets more intense as we progress through the semester.
Despite all the advancements in artificial intelligence, you will not succeed if you rely on AI in this course. You will have to have one-on-one, face to face conversations with me (your professor) and with the teaching assistants. We have seen that students who relied too heavily on AI struggled and did not succeed as well as the students who were putting the work in themselves. You should take this course if you are willing to take the opportunity to have these one-on-one discussions with real scientists (prof and the TAs). :)
I strive to create a psychologically safe classroom where you can ask and discuss anything. This is a great chance to learn by asking and making mistakes. We give you plenty of opportunities to revise your assignment and polish your ideas.
